About the Festival
The Teignmouth Drama Festival is now in its sixteenth year and is open to any amateur drama group, principally in Devon: both senior and youth groups are welcome. This competitive festival is for one-act plays and is run under the same rules as the All-England Theatre Festival (AETF) to which it is affiliated. Winning teams have the opportunity to go forward to the final rounds of the AETF. It is Festival policy to make a small contribution to each entering group's expenses, up to £30.
The 2012 Festival will be held at the Carlton Theatre on the 23rd and 24th March and it will be special as it is running in parallel with the RSC Open stages Shakespeare competition further details of which may be found on the AETF web site.
We employ a professional Adjudicator who is, usually, a member of the Guild of Drama Adjudicators (GODA). Most of the adjudicators at the Teignmouth festival have been leading members of GODA and have participated in judging national finals. Each team receives a verbal adjudication that is constructive and analytical and normally gives valuable pointers for improving the production.
The adjudicator for 2012 is Michael Patterson who comes from Leicestershire and he promises to, at least, maintain our normal high standard of constructive assessment of the productions. All in all, 2012 should be a very exciting year and we look forward to meeting both old and new festival teams.
We are delighted that the AETF Quarter final is also being held at the Carlton Theatre on the 28th April and will also cover both the AETF and the RSC Open Stages competitions.
The Festival is also a member of the National Drama Festival Association (NDFA) who also organise the British All Winners Festival. At least two of our winning teams have featured in the Winners Final, which illustrates the good reputation and standing that the Teignmouth Festival has achieved.
